3. How well I remember that painting of Martha lying nude on the loveseat. Dad had asked her to pose, because he couldn't afford a model and was no longer in art school, and she protested with "Oh, Gari, I COULDN'T pose naked." When she came over, however, he playfully lifted her dress as if to ask her to take it off, and she was totally bare underneath! She knew damned well she was going to pose, but she made him promise that if he used it in a show, he would not tell who the model was. Instead, when she came to the gallery, she went around telling everyone she was the model!--Janet Gari
